The Finnish Publishers Association wanted to offer its members a list of concrete climate actions to take to reduce the emissions of the publishing field. They turned to Spark Sustainability for help which resulted in a 10-point action plan and a system to follow their progress.
After participating in an assessment of the environmental impact of the whole media industry in Finland made by Gaia Consulting, the Finnish Publishers Association (SKY) wanted to take a step further and offer their members a list of concrete actions that would reduce emissions specifically in the publishing field.
SKY reached out to Spark Sustainability for help and together they created a climate action plan, set up a way to measure the positive impact achieved by the member publishers and a plan to communicate their progress.
“Our goal is to reduce direct emissions created in our operations to zero by 2030 and we aim to reduce emissions from procurements by collaborating with our partners in the supply chain. The new climate action plan gives our members concrete ways to get closer to those goals in everyday work”, Director of the Finnish Publishers Association Sakari Laiho says.
For Spark Sustainability, working with SKY was inspiring.
“It’s impressive that SKY wants to truly understand what it is that they as publishers can do to reduce the emissions in the media field — and take that into account in their operations”, says Amanda Rejström, CEO of Spark Sustainability.
